Handcrafted Harris Tweed coin purse, with a cotton appliquéd fox and free motion embroidered autumn grasses. Ideal gift for a fox or nature lover, or as a treat for yourself.
This handcrafted coin purse features a free motion appliquéd fox on a light beige tweed, with embroidered autumn grasses. The inside is 100% cotton cream fabric, with a metal clasp.
Large enough to hold all your money, but compact enough to fit in a small bag.
I start the process by choosing a liberty fabric to match the Harris Tweed; which I purchase directly from weavers on the Isle of Harris. The fox is hand drawn and cut out before being free motion appliquéd onto the tweed and a tiny black bead is hand sewn for the eye.
The next stage is to add grass and flowers to compliment the colours of the fabrics. This is done by free motion machine embroidery, think using the sewing machine needle as a pencil and you will have an idea of the process. It is all done by eye, no computer programmes involved, so everyone produced is unique.
Once the exterior is finished a wadding is added to give the purse a lovely feel, then I sew and add the cotton lining, the purse is then hand stitched into a metal clasp using Perle embroidery thread for strength.
The finished purse is approximately 12.5 cm x 11 cm, and comes wrapped in tissue. An authentic tweed label is included in the packaging, it is not sewn onto the purse as customers have expressed this as a preference.
